Free Yoga this month at the Florida Blue

At the new Florida Blue Center, the community is invited to four free sessions of beginner’s yoga this month.

The classes meet Aug. 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the The Florida Blue Center at Sawgrass Mills (1970 Sawgrass Mills Circle).

The Florida Blue Center is a part of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida’s multiple centers throughout the state. Not only can customers purchase health insurance, but there are also lectures, health fairs with free screenings, face-to-face consultations and more.

Race to benefit high school sports funding

Area runners will be up, down and around EverBank Field in a fundraiser announced Wednesday to help several high school sports that are on the chopping block. Organizers of the Inaugural Florida Blue 5K Stadium Challenge want the Aug. 13 event to draw 2,000 runners, with the majority of ticket proceeds benefiting high school sports such as cross country, golf, tennis and wrestling that are at risk of cuts because of Duval County Public Schools budget constraints. “We expect this to be a very big event,” said Doug Alred, 1st Place Sports owner and race manager. New Blue Cross Social Media Campaign Rewards Nonprofit Agencies

A Jacksonville-based insurance company’s new social media program is in “pursuit” of nonprofit agencies to award $3,000 a month to the one with the most public votes. Runners-up get $1,000 each.

It’s called The Pursuit, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida’s campaign rewards nonprofits that help Floridians in their pursuit of health.

To be eligible for Pursuit, the nonprofit agency must have its headquarters in Florida and serve Floridians. It must be vetted for fiscal responsibility and have a functional website that can promote its mission and participation in the Pursuit program so each can get votes.

SW Dade Health Center Offering Free Exercise Classes

A South Florida health center is giving people a chance to try different ways to live better and each week they can experience a different kind of class.

Whether you exercise to lose weight by dropping pounds or shedding inches, the goal is to keep moving which is why people are taking part in the free event for the month of May,  a work out provided by Bryan Ballart who owns “Bring It” boot camp.

“The goal is to help other people understand which program may be fit for them,” said Martha Garcia, director of the Florida Blue Center. The staff at the center in South West Miami Dade does more than sell health insurance. They offer free services like interactive health screenings, consultations,  and games that teach people about health. (Read More)

South Floridians to Learn About Healthy Living with Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, “The Coast” 97.3, Be Organic Catering and Smoothie King

On Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida will celebrate the opening of the Fort Lauderdale Florida Blue Center at Sawgrass Mills. The new center, which is Florida Blue’s fifth location in the state and the first of four new centers set to open statewide in 2011, focuses on helping consumers understand their health care coverage options while providing personal support for health and wellness care.

The weekend’s grand opening event will expose locals to fun, tasty and easy options for healthy living: including live cooking demonstrations and tastings from Be Organic Catering, complimentary personal health assessments and massages, and free smoothies from Smoothie King. Visitors will also have the opportunity to take photos with the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders and be part of a live radio remote with the chance to win prizes from WFLC-FM “The Coast” 97.3.

Visitors to the Ft Lauderdale Florida Blue Center at Sawgrass Mills can shop for a health care plan that fits their individual needs, attend educational seminars and events on a wide variety of topics, and during monthly health fairs, receive free personal health assessments that measure top line health indicators. BCBSF members also have the opportunity to work with consultants on a face-to-face basis to resolve complex claims issues and research providers, treatment options and costs to maximize the benefits of their individual insurance plans.
